Where the horse-human tale begins - let's get the story started....
Redtail Equine Center is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing equine assisted learning and team-building experiences through interactive, experiential activities with horses. Through the horse-human connection, opportunities for personal growth and development are created.
Structuring Activities with Equine Assistance
Activities are designed to enable clients to have the opportunity to solve problems. For example, one of the first activities could be to catch and halter a horse. The horses can appear to “not cooperate” and move away, or the halter may not fit. Many people have no concept of how to approach a horse, let alone how to halter one. The goal of all activities is experiential, thus explicit directions are not provided. This creates a challenge for clients and engages them in creative problem-solving to find solutions and succeed.
A more challenging activity, such as negotiating an obstacle course, is an excellent model for individuals or groups to discuss how to overcome barriers outside the arena, or in their community - equine therapy becomes a metaphor for real life.
Horses are responsive animals with acute sensitivity to their surroundings. Trust, awareness and honesty come naturally to horses - they provide immediate feedback and mirror back to us what we display. Our team works with you in utilizing these "mirrors" and help discover your individual, or group's strengths and weaknesses and assist in building new strengths.
What it is :
- a unique way to experience horses
- working on the ground with horses
- utilizing horses as “mirrors” that reflect truth
- metaphorical
- fun!
What it is not :
- a riding program
